MEET JUDGE BAILEY
FATHER • COMMUNITY LEADER • JUDGE
Judge Dennis Bailey was born and raised in Broward County. He graduated from Pompano Beach High School in 1974 as president of his senior class. After the University of Notre Dame, he earned his undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University and his law degree from Nova Southeastern School of Law.
Judge Bailey spent fourteen years as a trial attorney in the criminal courts, handling every type of case from misdemeanors to murder both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. He later joined his father and brother, private attorneys in civil practice, before moving on to handle cases all around Florida from Key West to Pensacola, in State and Federal courts, both as plaintiff and defense attorney. His clients ranged from Fortune 500 companies to a homeless man living under a bridge in a federal civil rights action.
After twenty-eight years of trial practice, Judge Bailey was elected to the circuit bench in 2014, endorsed by both the Sun Sentinel and the Miami Herald, defeating three opponents in his first race. Since his election, he has been the busiest judge in Broward, presiding over cases in Family Court, Civil Court and Criminal Court, securing verdicts from over 100 juries, more than any other judge in the same time period. He has also taken on the responsibility of teaching other judges from around the state at Advanced Judicial Studies from topics ranging from Evidence to Digital Evidence. He continues to be a guest lecturer at various venues, from schools to universities to law schools to police academies. He has also served as President of the North Broward Bar Association and continues to be the judicial liaison on the board of other local bar associations.
Away from the courthouse, Judge Bailey enjoys spending time with his three sons and his daughter-in-law. He’s remained active in civic organizations, including the Autism Society of Broward County and the Exceptional Student Education Advisory Council with the Broward County School Board. He’s also remained active in his church, teaching Sunday School, volunteering with the Men’s Club, and other ministries.
Judge Bailey has loved Broward and her people all his life, and has a passion for the law. He looks forward to giving back to the community for a second term.
